Boondocking in the Desert

Boondocking is something we nomadic folks like to call camping for free (legally, of course), and thanks to Matthew’s mad Google skills and Campendium’s mad bank of information, we’ve been doing quite a bit of it over the past month or so. Why do we like it? Because it’s free, and because with plenty of solar power and our new composting toilet, we are self-sufficient enough to stay off of shore power and other hookups for weeks and weeks (as long as there is a nearby water source for jug refills anyway; daily showers are still mandatory for this family!)

Here are just a few boondocking spots we’ve enjoyed this month: Buckeye Hills Recreation Area in Buckeye, Arizona; American Girl Mine in Winterhaven, California; Viejas Casino and Resort in Alpine, California; North Joshua Tree Dry Lake Bed near Joshua Tree, California; andIMG_20160223_145117 IMG_20160222_174326 IMG_20160223_150819 IMG_20160223_143346 IMG_20160223_140925 IMG_20160221_174132 IMG_20160216_172920 IMG_20160207_152831 IMG_20160207_152820 IMG_20160207_174914 IMG_20160205_172050 IMG_20160205_172536 IMG_20160205_122331 IMG_20160203_144245 IMG_20160129_175330 IMG_20160129_175323 IMG_20160205_171842 IMG_20160208_124633 Kelso Dunes in the Mojave National Preserve near Amboy, CA.
