Craters of the Moon National Monument

We like weird stuff, especially if there’s an educational element to it for our boys (and ourselves), so Craters of the Moon National Monument fit the bill for our time in Idaho. Driving up from Salt Lake City, Utah after a stellar Salt Lake Bees double-header (we’re baseball fans no matter the type), we planted ourselves at the Hayspur Hatchery for free camping and rainbow trout fishing (3 meals worth!), and made a day trip to Craters of the Moon for some volcano climbing, cave exploring, and Lunar Ranger badge earning. We definitely recommend this park, and if you’ve been to White Sands, you’ll appreciate this as a stark opposite. It never ceases to amaze us just how beautiful this country really is!
