Guadalupe Mountains National Park

“What do you want to do for your birthday this year, honey?” That’s how our trip to start out March 2017 in Guadalupe Mountains National Park was born. We came through the park and stayed one night last year on our way to visit neighboring Carlsbad Caverns; but this year, having been on flat land and limited hiking trails for 6 months since leaving Acadia, I was ready to settle in and stay a while and hike as much as my body could take to celebrate living 35 years so far. So, hiking trails and granola bars it was for 5 straight days. Sure, the campground is really just a parking lot with no water, power, or dump for $8/night, but the views and hiking from the Airstream’s front door really can’t be beat, not to mention the “extra” Junior Ranger badges for Paleontology and Night Sky! Guadalupe, you definitely didn’t disappoint! (and we even got to sneak over to Carlsbad one day too)
